The importance of using shower filters
Shower filters are starting to be more and more popular because they provide you with a lot of benefits, such as chlorine removal, reduction of soap scum and they also prevent skin and hair dryness. Another great thing about shower filters is that they remove certain unpleasant odors that may come through the pipes. Most filters also help in balancing the water pH, which will improve foaming and cleaning, and also remove chemicals from the water. No matter if your water is un-chlorinated you are still advised to use shower filters for eliminating other impurities.
Eliminating chlorine and chemicals from the water you shower with is almost as important as removing these substances from the water you drink. One of the main reasons to use such a filter is that chlorine destroys the natural bacterial balance in your skin and hair, which leads to various effects, such as dryness, itching and even skin aging. Another reason why you should consider using a shower filter is that chlorine and all other synthetic chemicals may vaporize in the hot water and form an area of toxic gasses. Because of this you are permanently inhaling these toxins during your daily shower activity, thus facing a long-term health risk.
Shower filters should not be omitted from any home because toxins, such as chlorine and synthetic chemicals can be absorbed by the skin too, thus entering the body without direct ingestion. Actually, the body can absorb more of these toxins through the skin than through drinking water. There are two types of media for shower filters the GAC (granulated activated carbon) and KDF (atomized brass).
The first type is not especially recommended for hot water use because at high temperatures some of the toxins absorbed by the carbon can re-enter the water. KDF filters are more popular because they last longer and they provide a better protection. These filters usually last from 9 to 18 months for a family of four members. The KDF shower filters’ effectiveness is demonstrated by its ability to generate electrochemical action. There is a cathode-anode relation between copper and zinc, which can be changed by some particles found in the water. If there are fewer particles in the water, which enters the filter, the KDF media will generate longer levels of electricity, thus effectively removing the chlorine and other toxins. The sign that indicates that you should change the filter is the chlorine odor in the water or the reduced level of flow.
